Molly Ingersoll is committed to enriching the local community through music education and fostering a lifelong love for music. Her background in music education and performance provides a personalized and supportive learning environment for students of all ages. Ingersoll's approach focuses on engaging and enjoyable lessons, catering to each student's unique needs and interests. Her studio is designed to be a welcoming space where students can develop their musical skills and gain confidence.
Challenge: Molly first contacted the SBDC in January 2023 for assistance in moving her home-based business to a brick-and-mortar in town to make it easily accessible to students. She also sought information on registrations with her LLC and funding opportunities. As Molly's business grew, she reached out again in April 2024 for assistance in hiring music teachers to assist with teaching students.
How Illinois SBDC helped: Business advisor Pam Clodfelter assisted Molly by providing information on registering the business with the state and resources such as business planning, background checking, and accounting assistance. She also explained the difference between a payroll employee and an independent contractor to help Molly determine the best route for additional teaching help.
Result: In September 2023, Molly successfully opened her music studio in its new location. In May 2024, she took a significant step forward by expanding her offerings and hiring four more instructors.
